Position Summary

Tacten is seeking Journeyperson B-Pressure Welders to support the Nova Chemicals Spring 2026 Outage. This role is intended for welders performing pressure piping work regulated by ABSA, including small-bore and socket weld applications in a high-hazard turnaround environment.

Outage Details

  • Site: Nova Chemicals

  • Location: Red Deer

  • Tentative Start Date: May 11, 2026

  • Tentative End Date: June 19, 2026

  • Rotation: 6 days on / 1 day off

  • Shift Length: 12 hours

  • LOA: $165/day

Responsibilities

  • Perform pressure welding activities in support of turnaround and maintenance scopes.

  • Execute welds on carbon steel pressure piping systems, including socket welds and butt welds.

  • Weld using SMAW process in accordance with approved ABSA procedures.

  • Perform all-position welding, including vertical and overhead, with uphill progression where required.

  • Work closely with pipefitters on joint fit-up, tacking, and final weld execution.

  • Interpret isometrics, welding procedures, and work packages to ensure compliance.

  • Support inspection, NDE, and repair activities as required.

  • Maintain strict adherence to Nova site safety, quality, and permit-to-work requirements.

Requirements

  • Journeyperson Welder certification

  • Valid ABSA B-Pressure ticket

  • SMAW process qualification

  • F3 / F4 filler metals

  • Qualified for carbon steel (P1 materials)

  • All-position welding capability

  • Experience welding small-bore piping (1” OD minimum preferred)

  • Strong understanding of pressure welding codes and quality standards

Required Safety Certifications

  • ESC H2S Alive

  • ESC Confined Space Entry

  • CSTS

  • WHMIS

Assets (Preferred)

  • Small-bore B-Pressure qualification

  • CWB SMAW ticket (Carbon Steel)

  • Previous Nova Chemicals or petrochemical turnaround experience
