Responsibilities

  • Perform welding tasks using SMAW, GTAW, GMAW, and FCAW processes to weld structural components per engineering specifications and industry standards.
  • Weld in various positions—flat, vertical, horizontal, and overhead—ensuring strong, high-quality welds that meet project requirements.
  • Read and interpret welding procedure specifications (WPS), blueprints, and technical drawings to determine material requirements and assembly instructions.
  • Prepare materials for welding by cleaning, cutting, and fitting components.
  • Set up, calibrate, and maintain welding equipment to ensure proper functionality and safe operation.
  • Inspect welds for defects, measure dimensions for compliance with CWB standards, and perform necessary repairs or rework as required.
  • Conduct non-destructive testing (NDT) such as visual inspection, dye penetrant, and magnetic particle testing when required.
  • Adjust welding techniques as needed to correct defects and maintain high-quality workmanship.
  • Follow all workplace safety regulations, including proper use of PPE, safe handling of welding equipment, and adherence to industry codes such as CSA W47.1 and W59.
  • Comply with CWB standards, industry regulations, and company policies to ensure high-quality and safe welding practices.

Requirements

  • Journeyman Welding Certification or Registered Apprentice required

  • CWB SMAW all position certification required
  • IRATA Level 1 required or willingness to obtain
  • All safety certifications as per required by provincial legislation
